Mr. Li Jiachao, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stated in his speech that this innovation and technology event is one of the activities of the "International Innovation and Technology Camp Business Week" hosted by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He expressed his gratitude to the "Beijing University Alumni Association in Hong Kong" and the collaborating universities and co-organizing units for holding this event. The event witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between scientific and technological innovation enterprises and the Hong Kong Science Park, Cyberport and other institutions. At the same time, the launching of the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Joint Development Fund" represents the injection of new impetus into Hong Kong's innovation and technology sector. The government is fully committed to creating a world-class open and cooperative platform, promoting exchanges in the areas of "government, industry, academia and research" between Hong Kong and the rest of the world, and enhancing Hong Kong's status in the international arena in scientific research, innovation, creativity and other fields. In the past year, about 50 high-tech companies have been attracted to expand their businesses in Hong Kong. The government will continue to make the best use of its institutional and talent advantages, build an international innovation and technology center in Hong Kong, promote cooperation between Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the world, and contribute to the new forms of productive forces of the country.
Mr. Li Jiachao pointed out that under the principle of "one country, two systems", Hong Kong enjoys the unique advantage of relying on the motherland and being connected to the world. It has world-class scientific research talents, a legal and regulatory system that is in line with international standards, and a sound system for protecting property rights. Hong Kong is the only city in Asia with as many as five universities ranked among the world's top 100, which has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents. These numerous advantages are the source of Hong Kong's competitiveness and have been successful in attracting talents and enterprises from all over the world to develop in Hong Kong. The support of enterprises is equally important for the development of innovation and technology. Today, several mainland innovation and technology enterprises will sign memorandums of cooperation with the Hong Kong Science Park, Cyberport and other institutions. At the same time, the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Joint Development Fund will be launched, injecting new strength into Hong Kong's innovation and technology development.
Liu Guangyuan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said that the conference is of great significance for Hong Kong to accelerate the construction of an international innovation and technology center and to build a highland for international youth science and technology exchanges and cooperation. From the perspective of all mankind, science represents the future, and so do the young people. He shared three viewpoints: to have a better understanding of China's actions and propositions in the development of science and technology; to have a better understanding of Hong Kong's advantages and opportunities in the development of science and technology; and to have a better understanding of the role and importance of young people in the development of science and technology.
Liu Guangyuan pointed out that he believes that creating a new highland for international youth science and technology exchanges and cooperation in Hong Kong is in line with the general trend of global science and technology exchanges and cooperation, and also meets the development needs of Hong Kong as well as young people in the science and technology field both at home and abroad. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has taken a series of measures to attract and encourage young science and technology talents to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship, and to grow and develop. It is hoped that young science and technology talents and entrepreneurs will conduct more exchanges through this event, and it is also hoped that all sectors of society will offer their support.
It is reported that the first "Hong Kong World Youth Science Conference" and the 2024 "Xiangjiang Nobel Forum" were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 13th to 16th. Since its establishment in July 2022, under the leadership of President Dr. Li Ran, the Beijing University Alumni Association in Hong Kong has given full play to its advantages of "being based in Beijing and Hong Kong and radiating globally", and has become an important platform, bridge and bond for gathering the strength of alumni and young talents in Hong Kong and around the world.
